Wando Maritime Police Rescue Teen with Hypothermia... "No Threat to Life"
Slipped While on the Phone and Fell into the Sea... Held onto Chain Until Rescue
A teenage boy who fell into the sea in Wando, Jeonnam, was safely rescued thanks to the swift report of a citizen who was fishing.
The Wando Maritime Police Station announced that at around 2:07 a.m. on October 19, they received a report near Wando Port in Wando County, Jeonnam, stating that "a man has fallen into the sea," and immediately launched a rescue operation.

The maritime police quickly dispatched a coastal rescue boat and a rescue team, and within five minutes of receiving the report, at 2:12 a.m., they rescued an 18-year-old male, referred to as A. According to the investigation, A fell into the water after slipping while talking on the phone near the seawall.
After the fall, he held onto a fixed chain on a nearby pier and waited for rescue. A fisherman, referred to as B, who discovered him, called 112, which led to the rescue. At the time of rescue, A was showing symptoms of hypothermia and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. It has been reported that his life is not in danger.
An official from the Wando Maritime Police Station stated, "We were able to save a precious life thanks to the swift response and rescue," and added, "We will continue to prioritize the safety of the public and do our utmost in rescue operations."
The maritime police are conducting a further investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
