'2025 Competency Enhancement Project'
Restructuring for Future Vehicles and Process Innovation
Gwangju City has launched proactive support measures to strengthen the competitiveness of local automotive parts companies in response to the rapidly changing future vehicle industry environment.
On October 19, Gwangju City announced that it has finalized the selection of 35 companies to receive support under the "2025 Gwangju Automotive Parts Company Competency Enhancement Project," aiming to lead a successful restructuring of the local industrial ecosystem.
This project attracted applications from a total of 43 companies during the beneficiary recruitment period from June to September. After a rigorous evaluation process, 35 companies were selected as future industry leaders in the era of next-generation vehicles. The selected companies will receive in-depth support, including customized growth strategies and business structure transformation, through December.
The support program covers nine areas: restructuring for the future vehicle business, supply chain ESG response, R&D planning, quality certification acquisition, process innovation, technology acquisition, prototype production, participation in domestic exhibitions, and promotional material production. The city plans to foster the self-sufficiency of these companies in the future mobility market through multifaceted support tailored to each company's characteristics and needs.
Since 2023, the city has been implementing this project and has accumulated 32 successful support cases to date. Participating companies have achieved notable results, such as diversifying their businesses through the development of core components for future vehicles, establishing business models tailored to overseas markets, and innovating production processes, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
Lee Donghyun, Director of the Future Vehicle Industry Division, stated, "The paradigm shift toward electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, and autonomous driving presents new opportunities for local automotive parts companies. We will actively support local parts manufacturers so that they can strengthen their competitiveness by producing high value-added products with proprietary technologies."
