The Gyeongnam Major Industrial Accident Prevention Center was immediately dispatched to the scene and requested a suspension of work on the maintenance and repair operations of the hydrogen purification process at the plant where the explosion took place.
Minister Kim also called for the establishment of both a Central Industrial Accident Response Headquarters and a Regional Industrial Accident Response Headquarters at the Ministry of Employment and Labor headquarters and the Ulsan Employment and Labor Office.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor, in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, plans to thoroughly investigate the structural causes of the accident and conduct a swift and rigorous inspection and investigation.
According to the fire authorities, at around 10:42 a.m. on the same day, an explosion and subsequent fire broke out at the SK Energy plant in Yongyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan, injuring five employees of partner companies.
