On October 17 (local time), the Chinese Ministry of National Defense expelled nine individuals, including He Weidong, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission and formerly third in the Chinese military hierarchy, from both the Communist Party of China and the military.
According to China Central Television (CCTV), Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang stated that these individuals had seriously violated discipline and the law.
The same disciplinary action was taken against Miao Hua, former Director of the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission, who was once considered one of President Xi Jinping's closest associates and rose to fifth in the military hierarchy before being ousted on corruption charges.
