During the National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee audit that day, both Kim and Lee responded, "We are sorry," to Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sangsik’s request to "apologize to the public for obstructing the execution of the arrest warrant."

Kim stated, "In the midst of this unfortunate history, we have caused considerable confusion among the public, which seems to have led to a loss of national strength. I am not free from responsibility at the center of it all, and I sincerely apologize for that." Lee also said, "I would like to express my apologies."

They denied the findings of the special prosecutor’s investigation, which alleged that during a luncheon at the official residence on January 11, former President Yoon instructed them, saying, "The police lack expertise, and security officers are much better at shooting guns," and, "Show them that you have guns."

Lee stated, "I did not hear any instruction to 'show them the guns.' What he said was, 'If people see that you are carrying guns, wouldn’t they feel fear or discomfort?'"
