The Mokpo Coast Guard in South Jeolla Province announced on October 17 that, in order to prevent maritime accidents caused by ongoing severe weather conditions, it will issue a coastal safety hazard warning, classified as an "advisory," for five days from October 18 to 22.

This measure will apply to eight cities and counties, including Mokpo, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Shinan, Jindo, Haenam, and Yeongam. The aim is to prevent safety accidents in advance that may be caused by strong winds and high waves.

The "Coastal Accident Hazard Warning System" is a system implemented under the Coastal Accident Safety Management Regulations to inform the public of the possibility of accidents due to severe weather or natural disasters. The system is divided into three levels: attention, advisory, and warning. This "advisory" is issued when there is a high risk of accidents or when damage is expected to spread.

During the advisory period, the Mokpo Coast Guard plans to strengthen land and sea patrols, focusing on low-lying coastal areas such as ports and rocky shores, and will carry out public awareness and guidance activities through municipal and police station electronic displays and public announcements.

A Mokpo Coast Guard official urged, "During the advisory period, please check weather information frequently and refrain from maritime activities if the weather worsens," adding, "We ask for the cooperation of both residents and tourists in preventing coastal safety accidents."
