Andong Launches Four-Week ‘Yangbanin Andong’ Time Travel Experience Cultural City Development Project 'Yangbanin Andong' Program Officially Launched

This event is a core program of the Cultural City of Korea Andong Development Project, designed to allow citizens and tourists to directly experience and enjoy traditional yangban culture reinterpreted in a modern way.

The program, themed ‘A Time Travel Living as a Yangban,’ offers immersive content where participants transform into Andong yangban for a day and experience traditional etiquette and cultural leisure.

A variety of activities are prepared, including ▲making a hopae (identification tag) ▲learning the yangban walk ▲archery ▲juryeonggu (traditional dice) games ▲writing a family motto scroll ▲experiencing Hwarin Simbang (traditional healing methods), making it suitable for families as well.

In particular, the interactive performance experience featuring Andong’s symbolic characters and traditional entertainers will allow participants to feel both the dignity and playful wit of the yangban class. After the experience, commemorative souvenirs and event prizes will be provided.

An official from Andong City stated, “We hope that this open program, accessible to everyone, will help citizens naturally appreciate the value and identity of Andong as a cultural city,” and added, “We will continue our efforts to establish Andong as a ‘living cultural city’ where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony.”

Applications and detailed information are available at Andong YMCA.

This ‘Yangbanin Andong’ program goes beyond a simple hands-on event; it is a ‘participatory cultural city project’ that brings Andong’s spiritual and everyday culture into the daily lives of citizens. By recreating the region’s unique dignity as living content, it is gaining attention as a model for cultural cities nationwide.
