This event, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by the Korea Animal Improvement Association, is the largest Holstein (dairy cattle) evaluation event in Korea. Dairy farms from across the country entered their cows, which were comprehensively evaluated on various criteria such as body conformation, balance, udder structure, legs, and gait, with outstanding individuals selected as winners.
This year’s competition focused on enhancing the sustainability and productivity of the dairy industry by refining its operational system and further strengthening the expertise and fairness of its judging criteria. The entire event was broadcast live on YouTube, increasing transparency and fairness and attracting significant attention from the nation’s dairy farmers.
At this year’s show, Nogok Farm made history by becoming the first in the history of the Korea Holstein Show to sweep both major titles: its entry “Nogok Blon Holkan 836” was named Grand Champion (Presidential Award), and “Nogok Monterey Maker 911” was selected as Reserve Grand Champion (Prime Minister’s Award). The judges praised the cows for their balanced body conformation and robust udder structure, noting their high degree of completion in key areas. This achievement is the result of long-term, systematic genetic improvement and scientific feeding management, and it is a meaningful accomplishment that has highlighted the technological prowess and competitiveness of Pocheon’s dairy industry nationwide.
In addition, Pocheon City achieved excellent results in several other categories. Lee Holstein (CEO Lee Jaehong) received an award in the Junior Reserve category, and Nogok Farm (CEO Choi Myunghoe) dominated both the Senior and Intermediate categories, demonstrating the overall high standard and strength of Pocheon’s dairy sector.
CEO Choi Myunghoe, who also serves as the head of the Pocheon branch of the Korea Dairy & Beef Farmers Association, has been dedicated to fostering technical exchange and nurturing future talent among local dairy farmers. This award is seen as not only a personal achievement but also as a case that has elevated the status of the entire local dairy industry.
Pocheon City also won the top prize in the regional competition category at this year’s event, further proving that not only individual farms but the region as a whole is recognized nationwide for its dairy capabilities. In particular, 13 dairy farms from the city actively participated by entering more than 30 cows. Yoon Byeonghyeon, president of the Pocheon Dairy Testing Association, played a central role in encouraging cooperation and participation among farms. President Yoon also personally entered cows in the competition, contributing to the elevation of Pocheon’s dairy status. This broad participation and achievement once again demonstrate the competitiveness and development potential of the local dairy industry.
Baek Younghyeon, Mayor of Pocheon, stated, "It is highly significant that the persistent efforts and accumulated expertise of Pocheon’s dairy farmers have been recognized at the nation’s most prestigious evaluation event. Building on this achievement, we will continue to promote policies to strengthen dairy competitiveness, including expanding the distribution of superior genetic resources, providing tailored technical support to farms, and establishing a smart livestock infrastructure."
Following this success, Pocheon City plans to implement related policies and support projects to enhance the competitiveness of its dairy farms. These initiatives will include improving outdated barns, distributing smart equipment, streamlining feeding management, and reducing production costs, thereby strengthening the foundation for the sustainable development of the local dairy industry.
