Hyosung Heavy Industries Opens 'Europe R&D Center' in the Netherlands

Responding to Shifts in the Future Power Infrastructure Paradigm
Expanding Research into Next-Generation Technologies... Establishing a Global Eco-Friendly Hub
Cho Hyunjoon: "Strengthening Leadership with New Technology Standards"

Hyosung Heavy Industries has established a research and development base in the Netherlands as it sets out to target the European power market. Chairman Cho Hyunjoon of Hyosung Group has devised a strategy to compete with technological prowess, aiming at Europe, which is known for its stringent quality standards.

On October 15 (local time), Hyosung Heavy Industries announced that it had opened the "Europe Research and Development (R&D) Center" in Arnhem, the Netherlands, establishing its first global research base to secure competitiveness in next-generation power infrastructure technology. The opening ceremony was attended by Woo Taehee, CEO of Hyosung Heavy Industries, Hong Seokin, Ambassador to the Netherlands, officials from the Dutch Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth, key figures from major European power companies, and academia, totaling more than 150 participants.

The newly established Europe R&D Center will focus on developing eco-friendly gas-insulated switchgear (SF6-Free GIS) in response to strengthened regulations on sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas. In the future, the center plans to expand its research to the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) sector, aiming to lead in eco-friendly power technology and integrated grid solutions.

Europe is home to the world's most rigorous quality standards and environmental regulations in the power market, and the transition to renewable energy is progressing rapidly. Through this center, Hyosung Heavy Industries aims to respond to the rapidly changing power infrastructure paradigm-driven by the proliferation of data centers-and to secure globally recognized technological reliability.

In particular, the Arnhem region is home to "KEMA," the world’s leading power equipment certification body, enabling Hyosung Heavy Industries to quickly obtain test data and immediately incorporate it into product development, thereby establishing a virtuous research cycle.

Chairman Cho Hyunjoon stated, "Hyosung's core competitiveness lies in technology that customers can trust," and added, "We will collaborate with research institutions in the Netherlands and across Europe to set new global standards in power technology."
