Days of Heavy Rain Flood Village and Roads
Father Pulls Bamboo Raft Loaded with Luggage Through Floodwaters to Escape Village
A Vietnamese father was seen pulling a raft through floodwaters to take his daughter, who was at risk of missing her flight due to roads being blocked by heavy rain, to the airport. On October 17, Yonhap News TV, citing Vietnamese media such as Tien Phong TV, introduced a video that has recently gained popularity on social networking services (SNS). The video, which was recently shared directly by the daughter, Hoang Ngoc Quyen (20), shows her father pulling a bamboo raft loaded with luggage through muddy water up to his waist.

The reason Quyen's father pulled the raft through the water was to help her catch her flight. Quyen, who was about to study abroad in Taiwan, needed to arrive at the airport by 12:30 p.m. on the 8th. However, days of heavy rain had flooded the roads and the village of Nui Hut in the Lin Son area of Vietnam, where the family lives. The village was completely isolated, with no communication or electricity, making it impossible to call for help. In this situation, her father said, "There is an 80% chance we will miss the flight, but I will do my best for the 20% possibility," and put his daughter and her luggage on a makeshift raft.

Although two-thirds of his body was submerged in water, Quyen's father carefully pulled the raft from the front. Fortunately, after getting out of the flooded area, they were able to continue their journey by car and finally arrived at the airport on time. Quyen wrote, "I never imagined we could make it from the flood zone to the airport on time," and added, "Let's not forget that only our parents love us unconditionally." The video spread rapidly through SNS, with many viewers leaving encouraging comments. Some wrote, "A daughter who receives such love is truly lucky," "Remember your father's sacrifice and do your best in your studies," and "Whenever life gets tough, watch this video again."
