"Protect your health while you walk, and help protect dementia patients too."

Gwangju Seo-gu District announced that it will hold the "One Step, One Won: United Dementia Overcoming Walking 9988 Donation Challenge" for 18 days, from October 20 to November 6, 2025, to raise awareness about dementia and promote a culture of giving.

This challenge was designed to increase community interest in overcoming dementia through resident participation, as well as to promote the Dementia Counseling Call Center. The center operates year-round, providing personalized counseling by professional counselors, and its name reflects the goal of "maintaining the memory of an 18-year-old until the age of 99, and staying healthy and energetic (88) until 99."

Participants who use the "Walk On" app and achieve an average of 9,988 steps per day will receive a "10,000 won donation voucher." After the challenge ends, if participants complete a satisfaction survey and agree to donate, the voucher will be delivered to households of dementia patients in vulnerable groups within the region.

Seo-gu District aims for a total of 300 participants to complete the challenge, and the accumulated donation fund of 3 million won will be distributed to 30 households with dementia patients, with each household receiving 100,000 won.

Residents who find it difficult to participate in the "9988 Challenge" can also join the "One Step, One Won Pure Donation" by walking 10,000 steps in one day and donating 10,000 won.

Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang stated, "Dementia is not just an individual issue but a challenge that families and society as a whole must address together," adding, "I hope this challenge becomes a meaningful activity where people can take care of their health and also participate in donations to help local dementia patients."
