Machimi Village, located in Ugum 1-ri, Gasan-myeon, Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province, has transformed itself into a "profit-generating village" through solar power generation. On sunny days, the village produces electricity, which increases residents' income and steadily accumulates a communal village fund.

Since 2015, Machimi Village has participated in Gyeonggi Province's Energy Self-Sufficient Village Project. By 2016, 38 households had installed solar power facilities with a total capacity of 132.12 kW. In 2023, 33 households joined the Energy Opportunity Income Village Project, establishing a commercial solar power plant with a capacity of 495 kW.

Additionally, 25 other households installed private solar power systems with a total capacity of 39 kW through a residential support program, bringing the village's total generation capacity to 702.12 kW (166.2 kW for private use and 535.92 kW for commercial use).

Currently, most of the 96 households in the village participate in the energy project, with each household saving an average of 70,000 won per month on electricity bills. Furthermore, about 570,000 won per month in revenue from selling electricity generated by the communal facility (40.92 kW) is deposited into the village's communal fund.

Notably, the 33 households that participated in the Energy Opportunity Income Project jointly invested 5.5 million won each to install the power plant, generating approximately 40 million won in profit last year. Starting this year, each household receives an average monthly "solar income" of 200,000 won. This corresponds to an annual return of over 25% on their investment.

As of 2025, Machimi Village is one of 473 "Gyeonggi RE100 Villages" in Gyeonggi Province.

This project targets energy-vulnerable villages, such as those without city gas supply, and distributes the cost of renewable energy facilities among Gyeonggi Province (30%), city or county governments (50%), and residents (20%). Through this initiative, the village achieves energy welfare by reducing electricity bills, generating solar income, and creating a communal village fund.

This year, Gyeonggi Province selected Machimi Village as the "Gyeonggi RE100 Best Village."

On this day, Governor Kim Dongyeon attended the "Gyeonggi RE100 Best Village Plaque Unveiling Ceremony" held at Machimi Village in Ugum 1-ri, Gasan-myeon, Pocheon City. He stated, "Pocheon is a leading city in RE100 and climate crisis response," and added, "Gyeonggi Province will strive to develop various ideas, including the livestock barn-based energy plant mentioned by Mayor Baek Younghyeon of Pocheon."

He further emphasized, "In particular, we will do our utmost to expand the Machimi Village model so that the Gyeonggi RE100 Village Project can be further revitalized."

The Machimi Village case is recognized as a leading model of sustainable energy transition that simultaneously addresses "climate crisis response" and "local economic revitalization."

Meanwhile, after visiting Machimi Village, Governor Kim Dongyeon visited a harvest site at a farm in Yeongbuk-myeon, where he personally test-drove a combine harvester, participated in rice harvesting, and communicated with local farmers.
