The Economic Education City is Wonju City's new vision to transform education into a driving force for local economic growth and to create a sustainable urban innovation model by linking talent development, job creation, and industrial advancement.

This study is being carried out with the goal of "Building an Economic Education City Together with Citizens." The city is deriving concrete strategic directions through a variety of opinion-gathering processes, including city council meetings, parent forums, and in-depth interviews with experts, universities, and institutions.

The interim report meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Kim Moonki, relevant departments, related organizations, and the research team. They shared the current status and key strategies of the study, collected feedback from related departments and experts, and discussed the establishment of effective implementation plans. In particular, they reviewed the core strategies based on the feedback collected so far and further refined the plan into a more actionable one by incorporating practical suggestions reflecting on-the-ground perspectives and experiences.

The main topics discussed included: ▲ Strategies for nurturing talent tailored to Wonju ▲ Establishment of an educational system linking high schools, universities, and industries ▲ Measures to support youth employment, entrepreneurship, and local settlement ▲ Development strategies for RISE and the Education Advancement Special Zone ▲ Strategies for attracting foreign educational and research institutions. The meeting also addressed development goals for four major areas and the direction for implementing 18 strategic projects.

Meanwhile, starting with the establishment of this plan, Wonju City will launch the first phase of implementation projects in 2026, with the aim of developing the nation's leading model for an Economic Education City.

Deputy Mayor Kim Moonki stated, "We will make every effort to ensure that the diverse opinions presented at this interim report meeting are reflected in the final report as sustainable policies," adding, "We will continue to systematically prepare to change the future of the region through education and to make Wonju a city where talented individuals choose to stay."
