According to Kumho Tire on October 16, the IDEA Design Award is the world’s most prestigious design competition organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). Every year, it comprehensively evaluates various criteria such as design innovation, user benefits, and social responsibility to select the best designs in each category. Along with Germany’s iF Design Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and Japan’s Good Design Award, it is recognized as one of the world’s top four design awards.

This year, Kumho Tire’s two products, “Volume” and “Origami,” were awarded winner prizes in the Professional Concepts & Speculative Design category.

In particular, the award-winning “Volume” and “Origami” are tires that provide new driving experiences for future mobility, offering optimal solutions to overcome a variety of terrains and environments.

“Volume” is a next-generation tire that dynamically adjusts its structure and function according to speed and road conditions, providing a versatile, sustainable, and intelligent solution tailored to evolving mobility needs. “Origami” is a foldable tire specially designed for space exploration and settlement construction, maximizing mobility efficiency in space environments through its innovative structure based on the principles of paper folding.

These award-winning products were developed through Kumho Tire’s “Technology Outsourcing” project, a collaborative initiative to research and develop future mobility tires.

Industrial design studio BKID participated in this project, realizing a differentiated future mobility design. BKID has been consistently recognized in the design industry, working across various fields including crafts, high-tech, IT, and contemporary art.

Kim Youngjin, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D at Kumho Tire, stated, “This IDEA award is a testament to Kumho Tire’s future-oriented design capabilities and technological prowess being recognized externally. Kumho Tire will continue to strengthen its research and development capabilities to provide sustainable and responsible future mobility solutions.”

Meanwhile, Kumho Tire has been recognized for the originality and excellence of its products by winning major domestic and international design awards every year. The company plans to further enhance its global premium brand value by continuing to pursue innovation and functionality in design as a smart mobility partner for a sustainable future.
