On the morning of the 16th, in front of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, Baek stated, "The prosecution is the subject of the investigation, and the highest leadership of the prosecution is involved in the allegations. I have consistently argued that the joint investigation team is an illegally formed organization. As I report for duty there, my convictions as a public official are shaken."
However, he added, "It is a civil servant's duty to follow personnel orders, and I am reporting for work because it is my obligation to do so."
When asked how he communicates with Lim Eunjung, the head of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office who leads the joint investigation team, Baek replied, "I do not communicate."
