Saemaul Movement Leads the Way
in Fostering Mature Citizenship
for the Modern Era
The Geochang County Saemaul Association in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it held the 2025 "On-Site Training for Enhancing Democratic Citizenship Awareness" at the Saemaul Hall, with the participation of about 50 Saemaul leaders.
This training was conducted by a professional instructor from the Run & Bridge Education Center. The purpose was to promote sustainable development in the local community amid rapidly changing social environments and to strengthen the capabilities of Saemaul leaders so that they can faithfully fulfill their roles as democratic citizens.
The training program focused on the basic qualities required of democratic citizens and leadership in solving community issues from a communal perspective. It was carried out in various formats, including economic education, democratic citizenship awareness education, discussions, and case presentations.
The participants took time to discuss and share their thoughts on conflict prevention, strengthening communication skills within the community, and the direction of the Saemaul Movement for sustainable local development. In particular, the sharing of practical cases applicable to the local field enhanced the effectiveness of the training.
Choi Seonggi, President of the Geochang County Saemaul Association, remarked, "Today's training was not just about delivering knowledge, but a meaningful opportunity for leaders to deeply reflect on what roles they should play as democratic citizens in the community."
Gu Inmo, the county governor, who visited to offer encouragement, said, "I realize what true leadership is when I see leaders who are the first to act and dedicate themselves unconditionally wherever help is needed in the community. I hope the Saemaul Association continues to lead the development and unity of the local community through various educational opportunities like today."
Meanwhile, the Geochang County Saemaul Association plans to continue strengthening the capabilities of its leaders through regular annual democratic citizenship education and leadership programs, making various efforts to contribute to the realization of a mature civil society.
