KOSPI Hits All-Time Intraday High, Closes at 3,657.28 Yonhap News Agency

The KOSPI reached a new all-time high, driven by strong buying from institutional and foreign investors.


On October 15, the KOSPI closed at 3,657.28, up 95.47 points (2.68%) from the previous day. The trading volume was provisionally tallied at 538.8 million shares, with a trading value of 13.6697 trillion won.


By investor type, institutions and foreign investors recorded net purchases of 751.6 billion won and 162.9 billion won, respectively, while individual investors posted net sales of 970.7 billion won. In the futures market, institutions and individuals recorded net sales of 620.4 billion won and 361.2 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors logged net purchases of 1.007 trillion won. Program trading saw net purchases of 84.4 billion won in arbitrage trades and 226.9 billion won in non-arbitrage trades.


Most sectors rose. The machinery and equipment sector jumped 7.78%, pharmaceuticals rose 5.07%, electricity and gas 4.08%, construction 3.98%, securities 3.74%, retail 3.15%, electrical and electronics 3.14%, precision medicine 3.11%, manufacturing 2.96%, finance 2.5%, entertainment and culture 1.95%, non-metallic minerals 1.9%, transportation equipment 1.8%, paper and wood 1.79%, telecommunications 1.57%, and textiles and apparel 1.56%. In contrast, the insurance sector closed down 0.78%.


Most of the top market capitalization stocks also gained. Samsung Electronics rose 3.71%, SK Hynix 2.67%, LG Energy Solution 0.39%, Samsung Biologics 9.74%, Doosan Enerbility 9.37%, Hanwha Aerospace 2.25%, Hyundai Motor 0.22%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 2.22%, KB Financial Group 4.33%, Kia 1.27%, Naver 0.19%, and Celltrion 0.88%. On the other hand, Samsung Life Insurance fell 2.87%.


The number of advancing stocks was 761, while 127 stocks declined and 42 remained unchanged.


The KOSDAQ index also closed higher. On this day, the KOSDAQ finished at 864.72, up 16.76 points (1.98%) from the previous session. By investor type, institutions and foreign investors recorded net purchases of 55.8 billion won and 47.2 billion won, respectively, while individual investors posted net sales of 107.5 billion won.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, performances were mixed. Ecopro BM rose 1.21%, Ecopro 0.4%, Rainbow Robotics 3.41%, PharmaResearch 2.81%, HLB 1.31%, ABL Bio 0.11%, Lino Industrial 1.58%, and Hugel 2.44%. In contrast, Alteogen fell 0.22%, while Peptone and Ligachem Bio also ended the session slightly lower.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate was trading at 1,419.8 won, down 8.8 won from the previous day.
