10 City and County Leaders and 10,000 Residents Unite to "Connect North and South"

The North-South 9-Axis Expressway Promotion Council (chaired by the Yanggu County Governor) held a large-scale performance on October 15 at Yeongyang Public Stadium, in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the County Sports Festival, to express their wish for the early construction of the North-South 9-Axis Expressway.

This event was organized by the Promotion Council and hosted by Yeongyang County. Delegations from 10 cities and counties-Yanggu, Inje, Hongcheon, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Yeongwol, Bonghwa, Yeongyang, Cheongsong, and Yeongcheon-as well as approximately 10,000 county residents attended, raising awareness both domestically and internationally of the justification and necessity for constructing the expressway.

With the theme "North-South 9-Axis, Connecting Together," the event featured each city and county delegation unveiling symbolic expressway signs. In particular, Yanggu County, the local government chairing the council, delivered a symbolic flag to Yeongyang County, uniting participants in their hope for the swift advancement of the North-South 9-Axis Expressway project.

This performance served as an opportunity to widely inform the public of the necessity of constructing the North-South 9-Axis Expressway as a key axis for balanced national development, connecting the country vertically from north to south. Building on this momentum, the Promotion Council plans to formally propose the prompt advancement of the project to the central government and the National Assembly, while also strengthening solidarity and cooperation among the regions involved.

Kim Jihee, Director of Planning and Budget, stated, "The North-South 9-Axis Expressway is the main artery of the nation, connecting the Seoul metropolitan area, border regions, and the east-west inland. It is a strategic project that can simultaneously achieve balanced national development and improved logistics efficiency. The Promotion Council will take the lead in strengthening policy responses to ensure the practical advancement of the project."

Going forward, the Promotion Council plans to hold a resolution meeting in November to call for the early construction of the North-South 9-Axis Expressway and will submit a joint proposal to central government ministries and the National Assembly. Additionally, through a joint publicity campaign involving all participating cities and counties, they aim to broaden public consensus and develop the project as a symbolic initiative for regional coexistence.
