The discovery of functional materials that enhance immunity has recently become a hot topic in the bioindustry, driven by growing public interest in managing immune-related diseases.
For the same reason, this study is significant in that it identified the previously overlooked branches of Hovenia dulcis as a potential new functional ingredient.
In particular, extracts from Hovenia dulcis branches were found to promote the activation of immune cells and effectively regulate the expression of related genes, suggesting broad potential for application in industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Based on these research results, the National Institute of Forest Science has completed the registration of a patent (10-2809306) for an immune-enhancing composition containing Hovenia dulcis branch extract, laying the groundwork for commercialization.
Yang Heemun, Director of the Forest Medicinal Resources Research Center, stated, "The proven immune-enhancing efficacy of Hovenia dulcis branch extract is significant in that it creates new value from underutilized forest resources. We will continue to contribute to public health and strengthen the competitiveness of the bioindustry based on forest medicinal resources."
