One Managed Area Upgraded to Leading Area

This evaluation comprehensively reviewed the outcomes of projects implemented over the past year since the designation of the educational development special zone pilot areas. The results reflect the close collaboration between the Office of Education and local governments, who jointly promoted regionally tailored educational initiatives encompassing education, care, career guidance, and settlement support.
The evaluation covered four existing leading areas (Chuncheon, Wonju, Gangneung, Hwacheon) and six managed areas (Donghae, Taebaek, Samcheok, Yeongwol, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon). All four leading areas received an A grade and secured additional project funding. In addition, Jeongseon County, previously a managed area, was upgraded to a leading area and will also receive additional project funding.
Superintendent Shin Kyungho stated, "As the educational development special zone pilot project enters its second year, regionally driven educational innovation is delivering tangible results. We will use the additional financial support to further develop regionally customized education models and establish a sustainable educational settlement ecosystem."
As a result of this evaluation, Gangwon Province will continue to implement the educational development special zone pilot project in a total of 11 cities and counties, including five leading areas and six managed areas (with Hongcheon County newly designated for 2025).
