According to Goyang Special City on October 15, the city is accelerating the establishment of the "K-Meta Culture Platform," a key pledge of the 8th popularly elected administration, and is actively building a comprehensive ecosystem that spans content production, commercialization, and distribution.

Goyang Special City is expediting the construction of infrastructure to support the growth of content companies.

The city is developing key infrastructure such as a 5,208-square-meter IP Convergence Content Cluster, and is driving the overall growth of the K-Content ecosystem by providing support at every stage from content production to commercialization.

This year, the city will hold a demonstration event to showcase five immersive content projects produced through Goyang's content commercialization support program.

At the "Light Space Illusion Season 3" exhibition, which will be held from October 17 to November 2 at Gallery Nuri Halls 4 and 5 of Goyang Aram Nuri Art Museum, visitors will be able to experience content that combines advanced technologies such as VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), MR (mixed reality), XR (extended reality), holograms, and digital art.

This exhibition will feature: ▲ "Streamscape" (Assod), a media art piece that interacts with the audience in real time using artificial intelligence; ▲ "Seorung, The King's Road" (Jigroove Co., Ltd.), a panoramic media art restoration of the funeral procession of King Yejong, the 8th king of the Joseon Dynasty; ▲ "Portal of Dimension: Rayleigh Portal" (Bovistu Studio), which allows visitors to experience the spacetime of a parallel universe through holograms and 3D media art; ▲ "Memory Museum" (Kim Jinhyuk Workshop Co., Ltd.), where visitors can view videos combining displays of nostalgic objects, live action, and animation; and ▲ "Crack of Time XR" (Art in Interaction Co., Ltd.), which enables users to traverse between reality and the virtual world using a head-mounted display (HMD).

The city provided a total of 400 million won in project funding to the five companies selected through a recruitment process in May. This year, in collaboration with the Goyang Cultural Foundation, the city has planned an indoor exhibition to enhance content immersion and has extended the exhibition period so that more citizens can visit and experience the event.

Additionally, at the Digital Media Tech Show (DMTS), which will be held from November 5 to 7 at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 1, the city will present three content projects featuring cutting-edge video media technology, as well as display products such as character goods created using its own IP.

The development of the "IP Convergence Content Cluster," a key project promoted by the city, is also progressing steadily.

Starting with an architectural design competition in November 2022, the city began basic and detailed design in May 2023, and is currently undergoing a feasibility review of the detailed design by the Public Procurement Service. The project is proceeding as planned, with completion targeted for December 2027.

Goyang was the only city nationwide selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 2021 competition for the establishment of an "IP Convergence Content Cluster." The complex, to be built in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, will have a total floor area of 5,198 square meters and four floors above ground. The first and second floors will house exhibition and experience spaces and content product stores, the third floor will be dedicated to creation and R&D, and the fourth floor will serve as office space.

The cluster will operate as an integrated content exhibition and cultural experience space, organically connecting IP acquisition, distribution and commercialization, and experience and consumption. As a core hub in the IP industry value chain, it will expand the foundation of the content industry in collaboration with major broadcasters, Ilsan Techno Valley, Broadcasting Video Valley, KINTEX, and other partners.

The "Goyang Culture Creation Hub," which serves as a stable base for the creative ecosystem, recorded a cumulative total of 6,047 users from 2022 to the first half of this year. The hub offers specialized infrastructure such as coworking spaces, meeting rooms, and training centers, and currently houses 10 content companies in independent offices and supports 8 virtual offices.

Resident companies receive tailored growth support, including consulting, seminars, and networking to enhance their expertise. Business support for OTT content production and distribution, patent applications, participation in exhibitions, and marketing has resulted in visible achievements, including 12 contracts, 2 IP acquisitions, and 1 overseas content distribution deal.

In particular, resident company Approach exceeded its crowdfunding goal by over 500% with products utilizing its own IP and ranked first in sales for four days at the Buddhist Expo held in Seoul. In addition, Data Brain Co., Ltd. developed an AI marketing automation solution and surpassed 50 million won in monthly sales within three months of launch, earning recognition for its technology and growth potential through multiple awards.

Following its participation in the webtoon expo in September, the city plans to actively support local content companies in entering domestic and international markets by participating in "Content Korea 2025" in November.

Going forward, the city aims to expand the global distribution network for K-Content centered on Goyang, and to promote the joint growth of the regional economy and the content industry ecosystem.
