A Variety of Attractions Including the International Ceramics Artists' Invitational Exhibition
Namwon City in North Jeolla Province will host the 14th Namwon International Ceramics Camp from October 17 to 19 at the Chunhyang Culture and Arts Center and its surrounding areas.
According to the city on October 14, this event is organized and hosted by the Namwon International Ceramic Arts Research Center. It aims to shed new light on the artistic spirit of Namwon potters who were taken to Japan during the Japanese invasions of Korea and contributed to the flourishing of Satsuma ceramics. The event also seeks to promote the identity and future vision of Namwon's ceramic culture both domestically and internationally.
A variety of programs are planned, including an international ceramics artists' invitational exhibition, workshops and lectures by invited artists, traditional ceramics demonstrations, an international ceramics culture seminar, hands-on firing experiences for citizens, a pottery wheel competition, and booths promoting and selling local specialties. The festival will blend tradition and modernity, bringing together professionals and citizens for a vibrant celebration.
The city expects that exchanges among domestic and international ceramic artists during this camp will newly highlight the history and tradition of Namwon's ceramic culture, thereby enhancing its international standing. The sharing of new techniques and technologies is also anticipated to significantly contribute to the development of the local ceramics industry and the enhancement of creative capabilities.
This event will be held in conjunction with Namwon's three major autumn festivals: the 2025 International Drone Festival with Robots, the 2025 National Heritage Night Walk, and the 33rd Heungbu Festival. Together, these events are expected to fill the entire city of Namwon with a vibrant celebration of culture and the arts.
Kim Gwanggil, head of the Namwon International Ceramic Arts Research Center, stated, "The International Ceramics Camp is a meaningful event that carries on the noble spirit of potters and fosters exchanges with ceramic artists from around the world. I hope that both citizens and tourists will have the opportunity to experience the charm of ceramics firsthand."
Mayor Choi Kyungsik commented, "The International Ceramics Camp is an important opportunity to share Namwon's outstanding ceramic culture with the world and to lay the foundation for the development of the ceramics industry. I hope everyone enjoys an even more diverse cultural celebration alongside Namwon's signature autumn festivals."
