Imsil County Urges Caution Against Bee Stings During Autumn

According to the county on October 14, bee sting incidents frequently occur in the autumn, when bee activity is at its peak and hornets, in particular, become more aggressive, posing a threat to people.

The symptoms of a bee sting can vary depending on the type of bee, the number of stings, and an individual's constitution. In most cases, stings from ordinary bees cause localized reactions such as pain, swelling, and itching, which typically improve naturally within one to two days. However, those who are allergic to bee venom can experience severe symptoms even from a sting by an ordinary bee.

Symptoms such as pale skin, cold sweats, hives, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the tongue or throat may occur, which can lead to anaphylactic shock. In severe cases, this can become life-threatening within an hour, requiring immediate emergency treatment.

To prevent bee sting accidents, the county advised residents to: wear light-colored clothing and refrain from using perfume or cosmetics during outdoor activities; avoid swatting at or provoking bees and quietly move away if bees are spotted; and store food, especially sweets, in sealed containers and be vigilant of the surroundings when eating outdoors.

Kim Daegon, Director of the County Health and Medical Center, stated, "Since it is difficult to know in advance whether you are allergic to bee venom, it is safest to visit the emergency room for treatment even if symptoms are mild after a sting." He added, "I hope everyone will remember these safety guidelines during autumn outdoor activities and enjoy a healthy autumn outing."
