Exploring Humanities-Based Solutions to Regional Extinction
The Damyang County Cultural Foundation (Chairman Jeong Cheolwon, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) announced on October 14 that it will host the 'Slow Extinction Hackathon' on November 8-9 to explore solutions to humanities and social issues in response to regional extinction.
The event will take place at Hotel De Monde in Damyang, where approximately 40 participants will gather to explore various strategies for regional revitalization, including local branding and policy proposals, over a 24-hour period.
This program is a sub-project of the 2025 Youth Humanities Program 'Dreaming Humanities,' supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Council Korea. It is designed to encourage the younger generation to connect the region's future with their own lives, careers, and cultural interests.
The program consists of: ▲Special lectures for problem exploration ▲Facilitation for idea generation ▲Mentoring for idea development. Participating teams will select one of four fields (work, branding, policy, or open topic) and propose solutions accordingly.
Anyone aged 18 to 29 is eligible to apply, and applications are accepted online until 5 p.m. on October 27. Ten finalist teams will be selected through a document screening process, and these teams will determine the final rankings through the hackathon process. Prizes and certificates will be awarded according to the rankings. For more details, please refer to the Foundation's website or contact the Cultural Policy Team.
A Foundation representative stated, "This hackathon is an opportunity for the younger generation to demonstrate their humanities and social competencies," adding, "We hope it will go beyond addressing regional extinction and lead to innovative ideas that can be applied to a variety of local community issues."
