Gyeonggi Province to Cooperate with Cyber Diplomacy Group VANK on Training AI Ambassadors

Gyeonggi Province is pursuing cooperation with the cyber diplomacy group VANK.

On the 13th, Gyeonggi Province held a "Meeting on Responding to Data Errors in Gyeonggi Province within Generative AI" at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office with VANK (Voluntary Agency Network of Korea). During the meeting, they discussed new public cooperation measures, including training "Global AI Ambassadors" to identify and correct misinformation about Gyeonggi Province generated by generative AI. This was announced on the 14th.

During the meeting, examples of errors generated by AI regarding Gyeonggi Province were introduced. These included cases where Namiseom in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, was incorrectly identified as being in Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, or where the relocation year of the Gwanggyo Government Complex in Gyeonggi Province was inconsistently provided as 2016 or 2023.

In addition, numerous cases were identified that require correction, such as factual errors in the description of Gyeonggi Province policies like climate action and climate income, the bus transfer system, and youth policies, as well as instances where images of Gyeonggi's cultural heritage were altered or their historical context was diminished.

VANK proposed several initiatives, including: launching a campaign to report AI errors through Gyeonggi Province's official social media, website, and app; introducing a compensation system for reporting AI errors; establishing cooperation models with AI-related departments at universities and research institutes in the province, as well as with private companies; and building a Gyeonggi Province-style AI verification platform and AI error archive.

In particular, VANK proposed a project to train "Global AI Ambassadors" to monitor generative AI errors and discussed expanding private sector participation programs focused on youth and young adults.

Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, said, "VANK has made many good suggestions for us to work together, and I hope we can collaborate. I would also like to consider a system where ordinary residents, not just the provincial office or public institutions, are incentivized to find AI errors. Please use today's meeting as an opportunity for each department to develop specific action items for cooperation."

Park Ki-tae, head of VANK, stated, "There are only 2,000 diplomats in our country. I propose that Gyeonggi Province become the first to train its residents as Global AI Ambassadors, so they can identify and correct AI-related errors that have spread worldwide."
