Ryu Geungseon, CEO of Kakao Mobility, stated at the National Assembly audit held on October 13 that, regarding the controversy over the company's roaming business commission, "We only charge commissions to affiliated taxis, and this does not apply to non-affiliated taxis."
Appearing before the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee audit, CEO Ryu responded to Assemblyman Park Yonggap of the Democratic Party of Korea, who pointed out that "Kakao Mobility is the only company charging a commission for roaming business, which places an excessive burden on taxi drivers," by saying, "We are currently awaiting a legal judgment through an administrative lawsuit with the Fair Trade Commission, so it is difficult to suspend the commission at this time."
CEO Ryu explained, "The 'Type 3' service, which is dedicated solely to dispatch calls, does not charge any roaming business commission," and added, "We only charge a certain commission to affiliated taxis that use our brand."
He also stated, "Kakao Mobility has about 80,000 affiliated taxis out of a total of approximately 240,000 taxis nationwide, accounting for about one-third of the total," and emphasized, "Even though the proportion of our affiliated business is not large, we will continue to cooperate with the taxi industry to fulfill our institutional responsibilities."
