Police Conduct Search but No Explosives Found
Some schools in the Gwangju area evacuated students and implemented early dismissal measures after receiving a "bomb threat" email.
According to the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station and Gwangju Nambu Police Station on October 13, starting from 10 a.m. that day, four schools-including A High School in Buk-gu, B Middle School in Nam-gu, and C and D High Schools-received consecutive reports of suspected explosive devices being installed.
It was confirmed that A, C, and D High Schools received emails from an unidentified individual stating, "Bombs have been installed throughout the school facilities and will detonate on October 13." B Middle School reportedly received a threatening email impersonating a student's name.
Upon receiving the reports, police deployed an initial response team to search both inside and outside the schools, but no objects suspected to be explosives were found. After urgently evacuating students, A High School decided on early dismissal, while B, C, and D High Schools resumed normal classes after the police search was completed.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sending of the threatening emails.
