On October 13, the Office of the President announced through the spokesperson's office, "The Director of the National Security Office will convene a task force meeting with relevant ministries to actively seek countermeasures against employment scams, confinement damages, and related crimes against our citizens in Cambodia, which have recently emerged as a serious issue."

The statement continued, "Under the President's directive, the government is making multifaceted efforts to protect our citizens from employment scams and confinement damages in Cambodia," adding, "To eradicate such damages, the government will also strictly enforce the law against related organized crime."

Previously, on October 11, President Yoon received a report on the status of violent crimes targeting Korean nationals in Cambodia and instructed officials to "make every diplomatic effort." Meanwhile, the seriousness of the situation has escalated into a diplomatic issue, as it was recently revealed that the repatriation of the body of a Korean university student who died in August due to confinement and torture by a local criminal organization has been delayed.
