Success in Revitalizing the Local Economy and Markets
The "2025 Chuseok Onnuri Gift Certificate Rebate Event," held by Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province at Yeongdeok-eup Market and Yeonghae Manse Market from September 27 to October 4, concluded with an enthusiastic response.
This event was organized to alleviate the burden on residents struggling with rising seafood prices and to stimulate consumption, thereby revitalizing traditional markets.
During the event period, customers who made purchases of 34,000 won or more received up to 30% back in Onnuri gift certificates. At Yeongdeok-eup Market, 7,372 certificates were issued, and at Yeonghae Manse Market, 2,025 certificates were issued, totaling 9,397 certificates. This resulted in a seafood sales promotion effect worth approximately 320 million won.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries was responsible for establishing the business plan and overall management, while North Gyeongsang Province handled the monitoring of fraudulent claims, safety management, and radiation inspections. The Korea Fisheries Association supported settlement and reimbursement.
Additionally, Yeongdeok County and local merchants' associations took charge of on-site safety management, event staffing, and promotion, making this event a collaborative regional economic revitalization model created by the community.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "This rebate event is not just a holiday promotion, but the result of efforts to connect local fisheries and traditional markets to create a virtuous cycle in the regional economy. We will continue to develop a sustainable model that enhances the region's self-reliance and ensures that today's consumption leads to tomorrow's income."
