Automation of Combined Packaging for Dry Cleaning and Laundry
Uisikju Company, the operator of Lundrigo, announced on October 13 that it has successfully commercialized its autonomous robot system 'LAPS' (Labs) after a 10-month pilot operation at the Lundrigo Gunpo Smart Factory.
LAPS is an autonomous robot system for combined packaging of dry cleaning and everyday laundry. This innovative laundry infrastructure was introduced four years after the company developed an automated clothing dispatch system tailored to each customer in 2021.
Typically, dry-cleaned garments are transported individually on hangers, while laundry and bedding items are bulky and difficult to hang, making the combining process manual, which increases operational complexity and reduces productivity. Through the development of LAPS, Lundrigo has automated the entire combined packaging process for both dry cleaning and laundry.
Uisikju Company cited changing customer trends in laundry service usage as the reason why combined packaging has become increasingly important in the laundry industry. With the rise in single-person households and changes in lifestyle, demand for outsourcing household laundry has surged, leading to a steady increase in mobile laundry service usage every year. Notably, 40% of Lundrigo's customers use both dry cleaning and laundry services, further highlighting the necessity for automated combined packaging.
Kim Daye, Head of P&C at Lundrigo, stated, "With the commercialization of the LAPS system, the dispatch process has been simplified, resulting in approximately double the productivity. We will continue to pursue technological innovation and grow into a leading global comprehensive laundry tech company."
