Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Selects Sejong City Office of Education as Best Institution for Public Language Use Nationwide

"As a result of the efforts made by all employees to create a culture of proper public language use, we have been selected as the best institution. We will continue to do our best to ensure that students, parents, and citizens can easily understand and trust education policies by using proper public language."

Kim Hyedeok, Communication Officer at the Sejong City Office of Education, was selected as the best institution in the 2024 evaluation of public institutions and official documents. She received a certificate of commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the 2025 Hangeul Hanmadang commemorative event held at Gwanghwamun Square on the 11th and made these remarks.

This evaluation, based on Article 14 of the Framework Act on the Korean Language, is conducted to promote the easy and proper use of the Korean language in public institutions. Since 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has expanded the evaluation to include offices of education and public institutions.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism randomly selected three press releases each month from the websites of the subject institutions (17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide and 118 public institutions), evaluated their clarity and accuracy, and released the results on the ministry's website.

In the first evaluation conducted in 2024, the Sejong City Office of Education was recognized for using the fewest difficult foreign words, foreign characters, and incorrect expressions.

Previously, the Communication Officer was designated as the person responsible for the Korean language, and various efforts have been made to foster a culture of proper public language use among employees.

Specifically, these efforts include: ▲ Producing six episodes of the promotional video series "Teacher Jeong's Korean Alphabet School" on correct Korean usage ▲ Operating the Korean Language Culture School (six times a year, in collaboration with Sejong City Hall) ▲ Designating and operating the 9th of every month as Hangeul Day ▲ Hosting Hangeul Month events in October ("Challenge! I Am the Hangeul King") ▲ Selecting "Press Release Masters" in the first and second halves of the year.
