A Chinese national who had been residing illegally in South Korea for 10 years was apprehended by police after driving a stolen vehicle during the Chuseok holiday period.

On October 12, the Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju announced that they had arrested and are investigating Chinese national A on charges of violating the Immigration Control Act, the Road Traffic Act, and the Automobile Damage Compensation Guarantee Act.


A is suspected of driving a stolen vehicle without a license on a road in Seogwipo City on the afternoon of October 6. He was caught in the act after fleeing approximately 2 kilometers, ignoring a police stop signal, after officers became suspicious of damage to the vehicle.


According to the police investigation, A had been making a living as a day laborer in Jeju for about 10 years after his stay expired in 2016. The police have seized the stolen vehicle and are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident.
