Yeongwol County to Hold "Drone City, Yeongwol" Vision Declaration Ceremony on the 14th

Sharing the Vision of Youth-Friendly "Drone City, Yeongwol"

Yeongwol County in Gangwon Province plans to hold the "Drone City, Yeongwol" Vision Declaration Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on October 14 at the Drone Flight Research Center (886 Deokpo-ri, Yeongwol-eup). The event aims to share the county's achievements and future plans for fostering the drone industry with local residents and related organizations, and to present the vision of "Yeongwol, a Youth-Friendly City" by making the drone industry a key growth engine, nurturing young talent, and creating quality jobs.

In case of rain, the event will be held at the indoor gymnasium of the Sports Park.

Yeongwol County was the first in the country to be designated as a drone pilot airspace in 2015. In 2017, the county attracted one of the six Drone Flight Test Centers established nationwide by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In 2024, it completed the Drone Theme Park for the demonstration of fixed-wing drones and swarm drones.

Additionally, by hosting various drone leisure sports competitions, conferences, and cultural events, Yeongwol County has built a network with companies, hobbyists, institutions, and academia. Based on this outstanding demonstration environment, Yeongwol was selected for the Drone Demonstration City project a total of three times-in 2021, 2023, and 2025-the first and most in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.

As the construction of drone demonstration infrastructure nears completion, Yeongwol County plans to complete the "Special-Purpose Manned and Unmanned Drone Testbed Project," which was selected as a Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province local extinction response fund project in 2022, by 2026 to further expand R&D infrastructure.

Through these efforts, Yeongwol County aims to nurture drone-specialized talent and establish a core growth foundation for a "youth-friendly city" where drone companies settle and young people can pursue high value-added careers.
