Goseong County in Gangwon Province, a hub city for the peace economy (Governor Ham Myungjun), will begin accepting applications for the issuance of transportation welfare cards to support free bus rides for seniors aged 65 and older, a program set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
To implement the free transportation welfare card for seniors, the county completed the enactment of the "Goseong County Senior Citizen Transportation Welfare Support Ordinance" in September. The ordinance stipulates that transportation convenience will be provided to residents aged 65 and older who are registered and residing in Goseong County, thereby enhancing their welfare.
The transportation welfare card being introduced will be issued as one card per person and can be used on both rural and village buses, allowing up to 15 free rides per month.
To facilitate this, the county will run a focused application period at township and town administrative welfare centers from October 13 to 24, and will continue to accept applications from eligible residents even after this period.
Cards will be distributed to applicants in sequence starting in December, and can be used beginning January 1 of next year.
Ham Myungjun, Governor of Goseong County, stated, "Through free bus rides for seniors aged 65 and older, we aim not only to reduce transportation costs but also to implement welfare programs that residents can truly feel in their daily lives."
