The prosecution has decided to drop its appeal against Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sujin, who had been brought to trial on charges of receiving money and valuables from Kim Bonghyun, the former chairman of Star Mobility and a key figure in the Lime Asset Management scandal.
On October 10, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office announced it would not appeal the case involving Assemblywoman Lee. Lee was acquitted in the first trial on September 26, and with the prosecution’s decision not to appeal, the not-guilty verdict will become final after midnight on this day.
Meanwhile, the prosecution has appealed the cases of former Democratic Party lawmaker Ki Dongmin and former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kim Youngchun, both of whom were also acquitted in the first trial. The prosecution stated that the reason for the appeal is that the testimonies of the providers are credible and there is supporting evidence.
