On October 10, a YouTuber posted a video titled "A Novel Way of Racial Discrimination at an American Restaurant" on her social media. In the video, she claimed, "I experienced subtle racial discrimination at a McDonald's store in the United States."

According to her account, even after 40 minutes had passed since she placed her order, her food had not been served. Meanwhile, other customers who ordered after her received their food one after another. She said, "I asked five times when my food would be ready, but the staff just smiled and said it would be out soon."

Ultimately, after waiting 70 minutes without receiving her food, she had no choice but to leave the store empty-handed. She shared, "I heard someone in the kitchen mockingly say, 'They probably won't come back to McDonald's again,'" and added, "The more I thought about it, the more absurd it felt, and I ended up in tears."

The YouTuber explained that after moving from Seattle to a small city in New York State, where the Asian population is less than 5%, she had already experienced this kind of subtle racial discrimination for the second time. She said, "I wanted to endure it until the end, but I couldn't stay longer because my dog was waiting at home," and continued, "I hope these subtle forms of discrimination will disappear. I will formally file a complaint with McDonald's headquarters about this incident."

As the video spread, she added in a follow-up comment, "I wasn't able to film at the time because I was overwhelmed, but after waiting for 40 minutes, I did protest, asking, 'Does this make any sense?'" She emphasized, "Asking the victim why they didn't protest more strongly misses the point."

"Clear Racial Discrimination"... Outrage Spreads

As the video spread, internet users expressed their anger. Comments included, "You should sue," "I've never seen such blatant discrimination on video before," and "File an official complaint with headquarters."

One user commented, "I also waited 55 minutes and finally got my order, but it was the wrong menu. When I said, 'How is this fast food?' all the staff laughed at me," and added, "At the end, I was even called a 'b****.' I reported it to headquarters, but perhaps due to staffing shortages, no action was taken."
