Gochon Library in Gimpo City to Host Event on November 8
A Humanities Lecture Exploring Hidden Legal Stories in Art
Gimpo City's Gochon Library in Gyeonggi Province will host a humanities lecture on the hidden legal stories within works of art from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 8, 2025.
This lecture will feature Lee Jaehoon, author of "The Lawyer Who Cares About Paintings" and professor at Sungshin Women's University School of Law. The event will provide an opportunity to explore the fascinating intersections between art and law through various examples of artworks examined from a legal scholar's perspective.
The lecture will cover topics such as Monet and traffic accidents, Hokusai and C?zanne’s copyrights, Madame Butterfly and recognition, and ownerless property and arson. By connecting familiar works of art with legal cases, the lecture aims to offer easy-to-understand and engaging stories that cross the boundaries between art and law. By shedding new light on these works from a legal viewpoint, the lecture is expected to give citizens a chance to appreciate art from a deeper and more unique perspective.
Registration will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:00 a.m. on October 13, 2025, through the Gimpo City Gochon Library website.
