Guri City Recruiting Participants for "Historical Tour of the Independence Movement with Commentary"
October 13-27: "Walking Through History and Autumn Together"
Hands-on Historical Education with QR Missions, Videos, and Quizzes
Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) announced on October 10 that it is recruiting participants for the "Historical Tour of the Independence Movement with Commentary" program, which will be held at the Gyomun Bang Jeonghwan Library from October 13 to October 27.
This program is part of the "Picnic of the Independence Movement with Storyteller Bang Jeonghwan" project, which was selected for the "80th Anniversary of Liberation Commemorative Cultural Project" hosted by Gyeonggi Province and is being implemented with 52 million won in provincial funding.
Until now, Guri City has operated a self-guided program using activity kits, allowing citizens to independently visit historical sites related to the independence movement in Guri and the Mangwoo History Park Independence Patriots' Cemetery. This fall, the city is introducing a new guided program featuring historical experts.
The tour course visits the Mangwoo Independence Patriots' Cemetery, with stops at the graves of Yoo Sangkyu, Bang Jeonghwan, Moon Ilpyeong, Oh Sechang, Han Yongun, and Oh Giman in sequence. Participants can scan mission QR codes attached to each grave to watch introductory videos and take part in quizzes. They will also receive in-depth commentary on the history of the independence movement, the lives of independence activists, and the historical context from an expert who previously worked as a curator at the Independence Hall of Korea.
The program will be held twice, on October 28 and November 1, and is open to all Guri citizens. However, elementary school students must be accompanied by a guardian. The meeting point is Guri City Hall, and the tour will proceed via the Hyeongje Spring. Participants are expected to have a meaningful time reflecting on the sacrifices of their forebears while enjoying the autumn foliage in nature.
Baek Kyunghyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "I hope this tour will help citizens learn about Guri's history of the independence movement and engrave the noble spirit of independence activists in their hearts. Especially in this beautiful autumn season, I hope everyone can enjoy both history and the gifts of nature."
