Comprehensive Review of Duplicate Addresses and Bank Accounts
Verification of Members Who Joined by End of August
Checking for False Registrations Such as Restaurant Addresses
Cho Seungrae, Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced that the party has begun verifying the 400,000 new members who joined this year. He stated that strict action will be taken against those who registered using false addresses or similar fraudulent means.
After the Supreme Council meeting on October 10, Secretary General Cho told reporters, "We will verify duplicate addresses and duplicate accounts for those who joined the party by the end of August."
This means the party will take stern measures against individuals who were mobilized to join as members in order to secure candidate selection rights for local elections. He explained, "Only those who have paid party dues at least six times within a year are granted the right to exercise their rights as party members, and the deadline for this was the end of August." He added, "Since 400,000 members were registered with city and provincial party offices by the end of August, we will first enter the data and then verify for duplicate addresses or accounts."
The party will also verify the registered addresses of its members. Secretary General Cho stated, "Members can change their party affiliation when they move or change jobs, but many have registered addresses such as restaurants. Therefore, we have issued instructions for nationwide verification."
Regarding the local elections, Secretary General Cho said, "We are operating two committees: the Nomination System Committee and the Strategy Committee." He introduced that "the Nomination System Committee is responsible for first establishing the screening criteria." The direction for system improvements is planned to be finalized by the end of October.
