Seocho District hopes that, with the opening ceremony, the Hinamu Symbolic Space will become a symbolic place where residents can empathize with and reflect on judicial justice. The district also plans to further solidify Seocho Legal Town as a leading legal and judicial hub representing the Asia-Pacific region.
The first part of the ceremony featured a tree-planting event for a successor tree of the "Cheonnyeonhyang" incense tree from Seocho Station, held within the Supreme Court. Seocho District and the Supreme Court signed a management agreement for the successor tree, with Seocho District taking ownership and the Supreme Court assuming management responsibilities. Mayor Seongsoo Jeon and Daeyeop Cheon, Director of Court Administration, planted the successor tree together, expressing hopes that the symbolic and historical significance of the incense tree will be passed down to future generations.
The second part of the event was the official opening of the "Hinamu Symbolic Space" at the Seocho Station intersection. Key figures from the legal community attended, including Mayor Seongsoo Jeon, Sanghyun Song (former President of the International Criminal Court), Daeyeop Cheon (Director of Court Administration), and Sunyeol Jo (President of the Seoul Bar Association). The event included congratulatory speeches, a business progress report, an unveiling ceremony, a tour of the space, and a commemorative photo session, all aimed at reaffirming the values and significance of judicial justice.
Mayor Seongsoo Jeon stated, "The Hinamu Symbolic Space is a meaningful place that embodies our commitment to upholding the values of justice and fairness and opening a new millennium for Seocho. We will do our utmost to ensure that Seocho Legal Town grows into a global center of judicial justice, not only for the Asia-Pacific region but for the world."
