The Ministry of Strategy and Finance has decided to regularly hold the External Agencies Planning and Coordination Officers Meeting, chaired by the Director General for Planning and Coordination of the ministry, in addition to the External Agencies Chiefs Meeting.
On October 10, Koo Yoonchul, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance, held the first meeting with the heads of three affiliated agencies since the launch of the new government at the Government Seoul Office. He announced plans to strengthen the collaboration system between the ministry and its affiliated agencies.
This meeting, the first since the inauguration of the Lee Jaemyung administration, was organized to share the new government's philosophy and to discuss major issues faced by each agency. The meeting was attended by Lim Gwanghyeon, Commissioner of the National Tax Service; Lee Myeonggu, Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service; and Baek Seungbo, Administrator of the Public Procurement Service. The National Data Agency, which was elevated to agency status from the Statistics Korea, did not participate in the meeting of agency heads.
Deputy Prime Minister Koo, regarding the recovery from the fire at the National Information Resources Service, requested a thorough review of additional necessary measures, such as inspecting disaster response manuals and improving related systems, in addition to the restoration efforts.
He also instructed that safety management be reinforced at the frontlines of implementation and that a system be established to enable swift responses in the event of an incident, emphasizing the need to pay special attention to on-site safety.
Furthermore, he urged the affiliated agencies to become leading organizations in the adoption and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in line with the new government’s economic growth strategy of expanding growth potential through a grand transformation toward a super-innovative economy. He emphasized that this would enhance the productivity of public services and further contribute to the spread of innovation in the private sector.
He highlighted the importance of the functions of affiliated agencies that are directly connected to the lives of the people, such as the collection of domestic taxes, customs duties, customs clearance management, and public procurement. He stressed that close cooperation between the ministry and its affiliated agencies is necessary at every stage, from policy planning to execution, to ensure the successful implementation of policies.
