Ulsan City Accelerates Efforts to Establish a "Pet-Friendly Tourism City"

Ulsan City is actively working to establish itself as a "pet-friendly tourism city," where people can travel with their pets.

This initiative aims to expand the scope of the tourism industry by promoting pet-accompanied travel and to revitalize local tourism.

In 2023, Ulsan became the first metropolitan government in the country to be selected for the "pet-friendly tourism city" project organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The city is currently carrying out related projects with a total budget of 2 billion won through 2026.

Ulsan City is operating a variety of experience-based programs, including improving pet-friendly tourism infrastructure such as accommodations, food and beverage, and transportation, as well as developing pet-accompanied travel content that reflects local characteristics.

The main programs include: ▲ "Mission Mongpossible Ulsan," a trekking tourism program where visitors can enjoy walking tours with their pets in Ulsan’s beautiful natural surroundings; ▲ unique healing tourism experiences such as ecological activities at strawberry and pear blossom farms, where pets and nature come together; ▲ incentives for travel agencies and tourism businesses that attract group tourists accompanied by pets; and ▲ a "pet tourism taxi" service that offers personalized transportation, as well as a dedicated city tour bus for sightseeing major attractions with pets.

Additionally, the city plans to hold a "pet tourism product idea contest" in November to discover creative tourism products.

A city official stated, "Establishing a pet-friendly tourism city represents a paradigm shift in tourism culture," adding, "We will focus all our efforts so that Ulsan can become the leading city for traveling with pets."

Ulsan City has already implemented a variety of programs to create a pet-friendly tourism city.

Major pet-accompanied programs include the "Jangsaengpo Whale Sea Tour Ship" from 2023 to 2024, and the "Daengdaeng Train" tourism train, which operated during the two-day Christmas sunrise event at Ganjeolgot in 2023.

Last year, the city also supported facility improvement costs for four local accommodations to increase the number of pet-friendly lodging options.

Notably, for the first time this year, Ulsan co-hosted the "Ulsan Beach Mongsplash" event with the Korea Tourism Organization, where people could enjoy the sea with their dogs, receiving an enthusiastic response.
