Vietnamese Secretary-General Lam Arrives in North Korea... First Visit by Top Vietnamese Leader in 18 Years On the 9th (local time), during a three-day state visit, Vuong Dinh Hue, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, arrived at Pyongyang International Airport in North Korea and raised his hand in response to the North Korean side's welcome.

According to the state-run Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Secretary Hue arrived at Pyongyang International Airport on the morning of the 9th (local time). On the North Korean side, Kim Songnam, Director of the International Department of the Workers' Party, and Im Chonil, North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister in charge of Russian affairs, welcomed Secretary Hue at the airport.

Secretary Hue will stay in North Korea until the 11th, attending celebratory events such as a military parade on the 10th to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea, and is scheduled to hold talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

This is the first visit to North Korea by Vietnam's top leader in 18 years, since then-Communist Party Secretary Nong Duc Manh's visit in 2007. VNA reported that this visit is particularly significant as it demonstrates the deep respect both Vietnam and North Korea have for their traditional bilateral friendship.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, and Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang also accompanied Secretary Hue on this visit. According to Reuters, the two countries are expected to sign cooperation agreements during the visit.

Vietnam and North Korea have maintained close diplomatic relations since establishing ties in 1950, and this year, marking the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship, has been declared the "Year of Friendship" by both nations.
