On this day, marking the 579th anniversary of the creation of Hangeul, President Lee made these remarks via Facebook, emphasizing, "A nation where ordinary people can freely communicate and express their will through Hangeul-the world envisioned by Hangeul is another manifestation of a 'country where the people are the true owners.'"

President Lee also noted that our language and culture are being promoted in 252 King Sejong Institutes across 87 countries, with a waiting list of about 12,000 people eager to learn Hangeul. He wrote, "The Korean Wave, which is captivating people around the world, also originates from the power of Hangeul, which conveys our thoughts and emotions without distortion."

He continued, "The dream of Korea as a cultural powerhouse-where the world reads our novels, sings our songs, and laughs and cries with our movies and dramas-is becoming a reality through Hangeul." He added, "The extent to which the Korean Wave can firmly take root around the world also depends on our love for Hangeul, the source of our culture." He also quoted Ju Sigyeong, saying, "The key to a nation's success or failure lies in how much its people love their national language."

Meanwhile, President Lee introduced that, in celebration of Hangeul Day, the 'Hangeul Hanmadang' event will be held nationwide for ten days from today until the 18th. He expressed his hope that "many citizens will participate and that it will be a meaningful occasion to honor the value of Hangeul together."
