"Number of Systems Affected by NIRS Fire Revised to 709... Recovery Rate at 27.2%" (Comprehensive)

As of 6 a.m., 193 out of 709 systems restored

The government has revised the number of government administrative systems affected by the fire at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) from 674 to 709, two weeks after the incident occurred.

"Number of Systems Affected by NIRS Fire Revised to 709... Recovery Rate at 27.2%" (Comprehensive) Yoon Hojung, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, is speaking while presiding over the 10th Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting related to the fire at the National Information Resources Service administrative information system at the Situation Center of the Government Seoul Office in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 9th.

On October 9, Yoon Hojung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, stated in his opening remarks at the headquarters meeting held at the Government Seoul Office, "With the restoration of 'N-TOPS,' our internal management system, we were able to accurately confirm the total number of affected systems. We will correct and publicly release the list of 709 systems to the public." He added, "As of 6 a.m. today, 193 out of the total 709 systems have been restored."

This brings the overall system recovery rate to 27.2%. During the holiday period, 54 additional systems were normalized, and services such as the Onnara Document System and the 1365 Donation Portal have resumed operations. Yoon emphasized that with the restoration of the Onnara Document System, one of the main administrative work systems for public officials, the inconvenience of having to manually draft official documents after the disruption has now been resolved.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, the dust removal in Computer Room 8 of the NIRS Daejeon headquarters, where the fire broke out, has been completed, making it possible to restart operations in the computer room from October 11. However, since many systems are connected to the fifth-floor computer room, which suffered the most fire damage, the recovery has been delayed compared to the original schedule, and restoration is being carried out through alternative means.

The government initially considered relocating Computer Rooms 7 and 7-1, which suffered direct and indirect fire damage, to the Daegu Center. However, if rapid restoration is possible by utilizing available space within the Daejeon headquarters, restoration at the Daejeon headquarters will also be pursued.

Prior to the meeting, Yoon and other participants stood for a moment of silence to pay their respects to a Ministry of the Interior and Safety employee who lost their life while responding to the network disruption incident.

Yoon stressed, "As the recovery work has become prolonged, it is now very important to relieve the fatigue and burden of public officials and private sector personnel deployed on site. The government will address the difficulties faced by workers and establish a 'sustainable recovery system' through additional manpower support and other measures." He added, "As Minister, I will also stay close to the voices on the ground and spare no effort in providing support."
