In celebration of the 579th Hangul Day, actor Kim Namgil and Professor Seo Kyungduk of Sungshin Women's University announced on October 9 that they have donated educational supplies to the Jae Monterrey Hangul School in Mexico.
This marks their fourth donation, following previous contributions to the Gruteogi Hangul School in New York, United States; the Kaennamsadang Hangul Cultural School in Vancouver, Canada; and the Hangul Baeumteo in Budapest, Hungary.
Their "Hangul Globalization Campaign" involves donating educational supplies to weekend schools dedicated to Hangul education around the world, as well as to foreigners who operate study groups to learn the Korean language.
Professor Seo, who planned this initiative, stated, "We recently donated a variety of educational supplies, including a smart TV, a laptop, and stationery, to the Jae Monterrey Hangul School in Mexico."
He added, "With the global popularity of K-pop and K-dramas, there has been a growing number of foreigners and overseas Koreans who wish to learn Hangul and the Korean language, and I wanted to offer even a small measure of support for their education."
Kim Namgil, who sponsored this initiative, said, "We will continue to seek out and support organizations around the world that are dedicated to Hangul education."
Meanwhile, both are also appearing together in a promotional video for the "2025 Hangul Hanmadang," a cultural festival that celebrates the excellence of Hangul and encourages global participation.
