"Proven to Be a Painful Miscalculation"... WSJ: "Hyundai Motor Group Fails to Win Trump's Favor After a Year"

From 25% Tariffs to the Detention of Korean Workers
"Little Success in Winning Trump's Favor"

Foreign media have reported that despite Hyundai Motor Group making comprehensive investments aimed at President Donald Trump of the United States, the company has yet to achieve any remarkable results.

On October 7 (local time), The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Hyundai Motor Group has made extensive efforts to appeal to the United States, but the Trump administration's response has remained cold.

Last November, after President Trump was re-elected, Hyundai Motor Group donated 1 million dollars (approximately 1.4 billion won) at his inauguration. Then, in March, the company announced a plan to invest 21 billion dollars (about 29.9145 trillion won) over four years until 2028.

However, the WSJ pointed out that these moves by Hyundai Motor Group were intended both to respond to President Trump's unpredictable trade policies and to strengthen its position in the US market, but so far, they have proven to be painful miscalculations.

Hyundai Motor Group was unable to avoid the 25% tariff imposed on automobiles, and last month, more than 300 Koreans were detained by US immigration authorities at the construction site of the Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution joint battery factory in Georgia.

The WSJ analyzed this raid as "a stark conclusion demonstrating that Hyundai Motor Group's relentless efforts over the past year to win President Trump's favor have yielded little success."
