Shared Jang Donghyuk's Remarks on 'War of Independence 2' on Facebook
Oh Young-hoon, the governor of Jeju from the Democratic Party, criticized Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, after Jang watched the film War of Independence 2 and stated, "History should be respected from various perspectives." Oh said, "He must take clear responsibility for making remarks that trample on history and insult the people of Jeju."
On the 7th, Governor Oh shared Jang's comments about War of Independence 2 on his Facebook page and wrote, "The Jeju 4·3 was a horrific act of violence and a crime committed by the state, resulting in the massacre of tens of thousands of Jeju residents."

He continued, "The truth that the people of Jeju have witnessed and testified to with tears for 77 years has become common sense and history. Jang Donghyuk, who tries to repackage this crime as a 'diverse historical perspective,' is shameless, just like the leader of a party defending Yoon Suk-yeol, even though the entire nation watched the scene of insurrection on TV."

He also wrote, "He must take clear responsibility for making remarks that trample on history and insult the people of Jeju."
Previously, on the previous day, Jang Donghyuk watched War of Independence 2 at a theater in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, together with party officials such as Secretary-General Jeong Heeyong, Public Relations Director Seo Jiyeong, and young party members.
Afterwards, at a cafe, he met with director Kim Deokyoung and said, "I believe we should respect the various perspectives from which we view history. That is why this film, which presents a perspective on history, should also be respected." He also commented, "At some point in our country, even historical facts became something people are forced to keep silent about. If someone presents new facts, they should be countered with objective evidence and facts."
Meanwhile, War of Independence 2 has been criticized by Jeju civic groups for depicting the Jeju 4·3 as a communist uprising. The Korean Film Council did not approve the film as an independent film, citing its bias and lack of completeness.
