Chuseok Second Day: Afternoon Homebound Traffic Continues... Busan to Seoul Takes 6 Hours 40 Minutes

Congestion Expected to Peak Around 5 to 6 p.m.

On the afternoon of the second day of Chuseok, Korea's major traditional holiday, traffic congestion continues on highways across the country.

According to Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 4 p.m. on this day, the estimated travel times from major city tollgates nationwide to the Seoul tollgate are as follows: Busan 6 hours 40 minutes, Ulsan 6 hours 20 minutes, Daegu 5 hours 40 minutes, Gwangju 7 hours 20 minutes, Mokpo 7 hours 10 minutes, Gangneung 4 hours 40 minutes, and Daejeon 3 hours 40 minutes.


At the same time, if departing from the Seoul tollgate to major cities nationwide, the estimated travel times are: Busan 6 hours, Ulsan 5 hours 40 minutes, Daegu 5 hours, Gwangju 4 hours 10 minutes, Mokpo 4 hours 20 minutes, Gangneung 3 hours 30 minutes, and Daejeon 2 hours 20 minutes.


Congestion in the direction from regional areas toward the Seoul metropolitan area is expected to peak around 5 to 6 p.m. Congestion in the homecoming direction is forecast to ease around 9 to 10 p.m., while congestion in the return-to-Seoul direction is expected to clear by 2 to 3 a.m. the following day.


The Korea Expressway Corporation projected that nationwide traffic volume would reach 5.61 million vehicles on this day. It is estimated that 390,000 vehicles will travel from the Seoul metropolitan area to regional areas, while 380,000 vehicles will move from regional areas to the Seoul metropolitan area.
