Foreign Minister Cho Hyun Holds Phone Talks with China's Wang Yi: "Need to Create New Momentum for South Korea-China Relations" Yonhap News Agency

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Minister Cho Hyun held a phone conversation with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on October 7. Minister Cho and Minister Wang reportedly exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations between South Korea and China and matters concerning the Korean Peninsula.

During the call, which lasted about 40 minutes starting around noon that day, the two ministers agreed to work together to create a new momentum for the development of South Korea-China relations, taking the opportunity of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Gyeongju for two days starting October 31.

It is believed that the call included discussions on the potential visit to South Korea by Chinese President Xi Jinping in connection with APEC, as well as the possibility of holding a South Korea-China summit.

When Minister Wang explained China's efforts for regional peace and stability, Minister Cho expressed hope that North Korea-China relations would develop in a way that contributes to the denuclearization and peace of the Korean Peninsula, and suggested that the two sides continue communication on issues concerning the Korean Peninsula.
